Water Distribution Systems
Water Main Improvements, City of Wheaton
Wheaton, IL

Kudrna & Associates, Ltd., prepared engineering plans, specifications, and bid documents for approximately 7,700 lineal feet (1.46 miles) of 12-inch diameter ductile iron water main and appurtenances along Butterfield Road in Wheaton. Butterfield Road is an east/west arterial street located in the southeast and southwest quadrants of the City of Wheaton. The project limits were generally Wiesbrook Road to the west and Orchard Road to the east. The water main also extended north on Orchard Road to Colonial Square. The project involved comprehensive right-of-way boundary and topographic surveys to prepare base plans of existing conditions; determination of critical elevations and sizes of underground utilities; determination of relevant ground features; and investigation of IDOT comprehensive plans for Illinois Route 56 to assure that the proposed location of the water main will accommodate future road construction and alignment.
Watermain Improvements, La Grange Highland Sanitary District
La Grange, Illinois
Since 1989 Kudrna & Associates, Ltd., has functioned as District Engineer on all matters related to the sanitary sewer and water distribution systems for the LaGrange Highlands Sanitary District. These activities have included planning, engineering, and construction field services for the upgrade and replacement of infrastructure.
Projects have included:
- Wolf Road Water Main Replacement - Design and construction engineering for the replacement of the existing water main along Wolf Road and Hiawatha Lane. Improvements consisted of approximately 3,130 lineal feet of 6-inch and 360 lineal feet of 8-inch water main including 10 hydrants, 53 service connections, 4 gate valves, and 70 lineal feet of auger and pipe encasement under Wolf Road.
- S. E. Court Water Main Replacement - Design and installation of 800 lineal feet of 8-inch water main, reconnection of 4 services, and connection to existing water main in IDOT R.O.W. in Willow Springs Road at 55th Street.
- Acacia Acres Water Main - Designed a replacement water distribution system for approximately 2400 lineal feet of 4 inch and 6 inch diameter main including hydrant and valve replacements.
Water System Improvements , City of Wheaton
Wheaton, IL
Kudrna & Associates, Ltd., was retained by the City of Wheaton to prepare engineering plans, specifications, and bid documents for a 1999 Water System Improvements project.
The project included two sections of main:
- Sherwin Street along Lincoln Avenue to Gary Avenue with the exact route determined during the design phase. This was a residential neighborhood with existing concrete curb and gutter and PCC sidewalk. The project involved approximately 3,200 lineal feet (0.61 miles) of 12-inch diameter ductile iron water main and appurtenances.
- Illinois Route 38 (Roosevelt Road) crossing at Erie Street. This section required directional drilling of C-900 PVC pipe. The project involved comprehensive right-of-way boundary and topographic surveys to prepare base plans of existing conditions; determination of critical elevations and sizes of underground utilities; determination of relevant ground features; and applicable permits from IDOT for directional drilling under Route 38 and IEPA for construction and operating permits.
