Professional Design Engineering Services, Chicago Department of Transportation

Kudrna & Associates is providing professional design services for roadway and roadside enhancments on a task order basis for City of Chicago, Department of Transportation.
Task orders to date include:
- Lincoln Park West Intersection Improvement - In response to complaints of local residents, K&A redesigned three Lincoln Park area intersections using modern methods for traffic calming. These intersections utilized the combined affect of roadway constrictions (curb line bump-outs) and raised intersections. Kudrna’s services included the construction oversight of one intersection during the 2007 year.
- Benton Place and Holden Court Streetscape – K&A provided design plans and construction observation for the safety and aesthetic improvements of Benton Place at the Chicago Theater. The plans project included stamped asphalt and drainage and ADA improvements, architectural enhancements with colored concrete with and custom lighted bollards while also focusing on drainage and ADA compliance issues. Kudrna teamed with Muller & Muller, Inc. is who providinged architectural services and Terry Guen Design Associates, Ltd is providinged Landscape Design.

Kudrna & Associates was awarded a contract in 2007 for Phase I and II engineering services on a work order basis as required for various projects throughout District Two.
Work order assignments to date:
- FAP Route 301 (US 20/IL 84), Section 29T-1, JoDaviess County - Provided TS&L plan, contract plans (Phase II) including structure plans and special provisions based on the BDE Manual and IDOT Standards for the removal and replacement of an existing box culvert carrying US 20/IL 84 over an unnamed ditch located 0.6 miles northwest of Devil’s Ladder Road near Galena.
- FAP Route 316 (IL 26), Section 2T, Ogle County – Provided contract plans (Phase II) including structure plans and special provisions based upon the BDE Manual and IDOT Standards for inlet drop boxes and end sections to be inserted into plans developed by others for the removal and replacement of existing box culverts carrying IL Route 26 over three unnamed ditches located in Ogle County.
- FAP Route 301 (US 20/IL 84), Section 30-M-2, JoDaviess County – Provided contract plans (Phase II) including roadway plans and special provisions based upon the BDE Manual and IDOT Standards for the reconstruction of the US 20/IL 84 intersection located north of Galena.
Midwest Road Improvements, DuPage County Highway Department
Westmont, Illinois

Kudrna & Associates prepared design plans and specifications and provided resident engineering for the expansion of Midwest Road from the East-West Tollway (Baybrook Lane in Oak Brook) to 39th Street in Westmont. Improvements consisted of roadway expansion from two lanes to four lanes - widening of existing pavement south of 35th Street and full reconstruction north of 35th Street (approximately 2 miles in length). The project also included: new storm sewers and drainage structures; stormwater detention; a multi-celled box culvert; a 373 foot retaining wall (< 20 ft in height); and a parallel bicycle/pedestrian trail with connections to the Oak Brook bicycle trail system. Detention calculations were made per the DuPage County Stormwater and Flood Plain Ordinance. Modifications were made to a subdivision lake to provide on-site detention. Plans were developed in accordance with FEQ Model for Ginger Creek. Signalization improvements and interconnections were made to four intersections.
81st Street Roadway Improvements, Village of Justice
Justice, Illinois
Kudrna & Associates was selected to provide civil engineering services for the design of roadway improvements along 81st Street from 88th Avenue to Fawn Trail in Justice, IL. Tasks included data collection involving review of the Stormwater Master Plan, coordination with utility companies and the County. Topographic survey will be completed for the area of improvement totaling approximately 2,200 feet.
Route 116 Rehabilitation, Illinois Department of Transportation
Saunemin, Illinois

Phase I and Phase II engineering services. Phase I included preparation of a Preliminary Engineering Report (a Categorical Exclusion) for resurfacing, installation of curb and gutter and storm sewer extending 0.65miles from Illinois 47 to east of Maple Street in Saunemin. Phase II included preliminary and final contract plans, special provisions and estimates. The proposed improvements for IL Route 116 consist of widening the existing pavement to 30’ face-to-face of proposed curb and gutter. Drainage will be improved by construction of combination concrete curb and gutter and an enclosed storm sewer system to replace the existing shoulders and roadside ditches. The intersection at IL 116 and IL 47 will be upgraded to accommodate a WB-65 vehicle. The intersection of IL 116 and Plum Street will be upgraded to accommodate a WB-50 vehicle.
75th Street Improvements, DuPage County Division of Transportation
Western DuPage County
Kudrna & Associates prepared plans and specifications for roadway and drainage improvements. Involved expanding existing two lane rural configuration to four lane urban section including intersection improvements at Illinois Route 59 and 34 in western DuPage County. Also designed on-site detention.
