Surveying Examples

As part of our Open-Ended Professional Surveying Services contract with the Chicago Department of Planning, Kudrna & Associates performed various General Land Surveying Services assignments at Chicago’s Midway Airport.

Locations include:

• Bloomingdale, Medinah on the Lake Condominium - Provided field survey, preparation of an ALTA survey, plat of subdivision and plat of dedication, in addition to site design for the 24-acre site. Prepared condominium surveys for 3 condominium buildings.
• Willow Springs Condominium - Provided civil engineering site plans for construction of a residential/commercial development in Downtown Willow Springs for development which consists of 103 condominium units. Provded subdivision plat and individual condominium surveys.
• Oak Lawn Condominiums – Subdivision plat and 63 condominium surveys, construction staking and civil engineering services.
• Park Avenue Condominium Building Surveys, Clarendon Hills, IL – Preparation of as-built building surveys for 5-story condominium buildings, for use by the owner at sale closings.
• Spring Avenue Station, LaGrange, IL – Civil engineering services, site surveying, consolidation plat, construction staking and preparation of individual condominium surveys for 55 condominiums.
• Station Crossing, Downers Grove, IL - Provided civil engineering services, site survey, and preparation of individual condominium surveys for 49 condominiums and 5 commercial units.

Provided field services as a participating team member led by Walsh Construction for the reconstruction of Eastbound lanes of Chicago Skyway, from Indiana border to 91st St.

Provided field survey crew for setting line and grade for highway construction. Using surveying equipment, the crew established location and elevation of highway structures such as bridge piers, set lines for beam and deck placement. The crew also set location and elevation of underground utilities such as storm and sewer lines within the highway ROW.

Using surveying equipment, the crew also monitored bridge deflection during unloading and loading (deck demolition and reconstruction) in order to maintain engineering tolerances.

Kudrna & Associates provided professional land surveying resources for the survey monumentation program at O'Hare and Midway International Airports. Work included: review, evaluation and re-establishment of survey control monuments at both landside and airside locations at O'Hare. An atlas was prepared that provides summary tables showing station locations and elevations (USGS), General Location Maps as well as individual sheets that provide data and ties for each site. The product is a network of coordinated monuments. These monuments are in sufficient form and content so that current and future projects at the airport will all be on the same horizontal and vertical network. Eighty-one new monuments were set utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) technology at O'Hare. 10 Monuments were set at Midway International Airport. Old monuments were replaced and relocated because many were not accessible, obscured, located within construction sites, and otherwise in bad locations not visible from other monuments.

Kudrna & Associates, Ltd., provided construction staking for a 2-year, 30-million dollar project for K-Five Construction. The project included completion of new ramp construction (6 new ramps), and complete reconstruction of Rte. 45 from and including the intersections of 191st Street to and including 179th Street. Construction staking was for approximately 33,000 linear feet of new road including Rte. 45, 179th Street, 191st Street and 6 new ramps. Also included was an addition to I-80.

Kudrna & Associates provided professional land surveying services to the Chicago Park District for various projects on an “On Call” basis.

Kudrna & Associates, Ltd., provided construction staking services for the extension of I-355. Our field crews were responsible for staking 7,000 feet of mainline, both north & south bound. Our contracts covered 10 bridges, related ramps, temporary run-arounds and approach roadway, to and from the bridges, with acceleration and deceleration lanes. Staking of multiple noise walls off of the highway was provided. Our contracts covered the project area from New Avenue, in Lemont, southward to the Bruce Road Bridge. The CAD department supplied field data to the crews in order to achieve the accuracy needed for this project.
