Harborside International Golf Course, Illinois International Port District

Kudrna & Associates, Ltd., provided management, site engineering and construction management services for all earth work, infrastructure improvements, five acres of parking, and drainage for a 450-acre, 36-hole golf course. The site was a former sanitary waste landfill. IEPA mandated conveyance of 10-year runoff to a sanitary sewer for processing at a treatment plant. Hydraulic design included a series of ten stormwater detention ponds with restricted outlets to connecting open ditches or storm sewers to achieve the IEPA mandate. Extensive TR-20 hydrologic and WSP-2 hydraulic modeling were required. Related work included Corps of Engineers and IDOT/DWR permits for culvert construction, shore protection, dredging of 600,000 cubic yards of material, and filling wetlands. About 6.7 acres of wetland mitigation were provided. 600 feet of wood piling and slurry wall were designed to separate the course from open water.
